VOTE for Woolly School Garden
What you may NOT know about Annandale Children's Garden -
100+ children visit the school garden (pre K to 5th grade) every week.
We have a $0 budget with most of the seeds, pots, soil, tools and other supplies coming directly from donations (see Our Garden Angels).
We are 100% organic.
Everything is done by the kids, a handful of teachers and myself - planting, pruning, weeding, watering.
We are one of the Woolly School Garden projects and need your help. It's easy + simple to help

It will prompt you to sign in to vote and that's it! You can vote every day, once a day for the next month. The top 2 ideas will receive funding for all the schools involved AND Annandale will receive a complete kit (pockets, soil, and seeds) to cover an unsightly back fence.

May Update
We had a fantastic month with beans, peas, sweet peas, fava beans, herbs and various flowers all growing like crazy. We also started squash and pumpkins with some lovely marigolds around the edge of the beds.

Very Productive Wednesday
This past week the kids made plant markers, drew pictures of what they are planning to grow in their gardens and planted bulbs. The seedlings from the last workshop are already sprouting and all of recent watering is bringing up NEW volunteer plants and weeds alike.
Our junior gardeners are all enthusiastic weeders (sometimes at the detriment of our plants) filling buckets with crab grass, spurge, lamb's quarters, and various undesirable green things. Unfortunately we also lost a volunteer artichoke and a couple of parsley plants to some over-ambitious little hands and feet. But that is the nature of learning about gardening. Very early in my gardening experience - I caught and destroyed many ugly little critters, only to discover (much) later that they were in fact juvenile ladybugs - UGH. But we all live and learn and I'm fairly certain that any future "accidental" artichokes that hit our garden will be treated much kinder.
